How we use cookies.

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are, which ones we use on the seli.com.ng website and inside the Seli app, why we use them, and how you can control them.

1. What cookies & similar technologies are

A cookie is a small text file a website places on your device when you visit it. It lets the site remember your actions and preferences (such as login and language) over a period of time, so you don't have to re-enter them every time you come back.

We also use technologies that work in similar ways, including:

  • Local storage & session storage - browser storage used to keep app/site state and preferences;
  • Pixels / web beacons - tiny transparent images embedded in pages or emails that let us know when they were opened and where;
  • Device identifiers - identifiers (such as advertising IDs, GAID/IDFA) used in the mobile app to measure campaigns and - with consent - to personalise them;
  • Plug-ins and SDKs - analytics and payment SDKs integrated into the app that may store data on-device.

For simplicity, when we say "cookies" in this policy, we mean all of the above. Cookies can be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (they stay until they expire or you delete them).

2. How we use cookies

We use cookies to make the site work, to keep it secure, to understand how it is used, and - with your consent where required - to personalise and measure our marketing. In particular:

  • Essential / strictly necessary - keeping you signed in, protecting against fraud and abuse, remembering your cookie choices, and keeping pages and payments secure;
  • Performance & analytics - counting visits, understanding which pages and features people use, spotting errors and crashes, and measuring how improvements perform;
  • Preferences & functionality - remembering your language, currency, region, dark/light preferences and saved settings;
  • Marketing & advertising - (with consent where law requires) measuring the effectiveness of our campaigns, retargeting visitors who showed interest, and limiting how often you see an ad.

4. First-party vs. third-party cookies

  • First-party cookies are set by Seli itself (on the seli.com.ng domain or inside the Seli app) and are used for the site's own essential and preference functions;
  • Third-party cookies are set by other domains - for example our analytics, advertising or payment providers. They may combine information from across the websites you visit. Those providers' own privacy and cookie policies apply to the data they collect;
  • Third-party providers may transfer data they collect subject to their own policies and safeguards. See our Privacy Policy, Section 8, for information on international transfers.

5. How to manage cookies

5.1 On the website

  • Cookie banner: when you first visit seli.com.ng you can accept or decline non-essential cookies, and you can adjust your choice later from the cookie settings (/ your browser);
  • Browser settings: most browsers let you block or delete cookies, block third-party cookies, and clear site data on exit. The exact steps differ by browser - look under the privacy / security settings of Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge;
  • Blocking cookies may break features: blocking essential cookies can prevent you from signing in, using cart and checkout, or completing purchases.

5.2 On mobile devices

  • iOS: Settings → the Seli app → allow "Tracking" (for personalised ads) and control permission toggles;
  • Android: Settings → Apps → Seli → permissions, and "Opt out of Ads Personalisation" under the Google Ads settings;
  • These controls apply to mobile identifiers; on-device analytics and storage are managed like other app data.
Note: exercising any of these choices does not stop ads or analytics altogether - it stops non-essential personalisation and data sharing that rely on cookies or identifiers. You may still see Seli advertisements that are shown contextually.

6. Analytics & advertising opt-outs

  • Google Analytics: you can install Google's opt-out browser add-on to prevent your data being used by Google Analytics;
  • Apple/Google advertising: on iOS, choose "Limit Ad Tracking"; on Android, choose "Opt out of Ads Personalisation" (also covered above);
  • Industry tools: where supported, you can use web-based opt-outs such as the Digital Advertising Alliance's YourAdChoices service;
  • Direct: you can also email privacy@seli.com.ng and ask us to stop using your data for non-essential analytics or marketing.

These opt-outs are stored in cookies or on-device settings and may be reset when you clear your browser or reinstall the app - in which case you'll need to set your choice again.

7. Cookies in the Seli app

The Seli mobile app stores app-limited on-device data for the same purposes as cookies on the website: authentication tokens so you stay signed in, push-notification tokens, cached feed content, analytics identifiers and (with consent) advertising identifiers. Because these are app-native rather than browser cookies, they are managed through your device and in-app privacy preferences rather than the browser. Your options are described in Sections 5.2 and 6 above, and any personal data involved is handled per the Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as the technologies we partner with, or legal requirements, change. Material updates are reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, we will prompt you again for cookie consent when a material change affects your choices.
